Begini isinya :
IIt is hereby noted and agreed that:
- In case damages or losses occur on partial parts of motor vehicle in pairs or set, the Insurer`s liability is limited to recover its parts that have damage or loss only.
- In case damages or losses occur on parts of motor vehicle that has been modified, but it is not mentioned in this policy, the Insurer`s liability is limited to recover as standard condition of the manufacturer including its additional attachment set forth in the policy.
Intisari Klausul (Bagaimana Cara Kerjanya?)
Skenario 1: Modifikasi Velg Tidak Lapor
Sisa kerugian velg racing Anda hangus.
Skenario 2: Lampu Pecah Sebelah
- Kejadian: Anda terserempet motor dari arah kiri. Akibatnya, rumah lampu depan (headlamp) sebelah kiri Anda pecah total.
English
As an insurance practitioner, I often refer to the “Modification and Paired Part/Set Clause” simply as the “Factory Standard & Single-Side Replacement Rule.”
This clause is extremely important for anyone who loves modifying their car or cares deeply about its aesthetic symmetry. It consists of two main rules. Here is the breakdown in plain English:
The Core Concept (How It Works)
This clause protects the insurance company from having to pay for expensive, undeclared aftermarket parts, and prevents them from wasting money replacing perfectly good parts just to make things look symmetrical.
1. The Modification Rule (Factory Standard Limitation) If you alter, upgrade, or modify your car’s parts to something more expensive than the original version, you must report this to the insurer so it can be noted in your policy. If you fail to report it and those modified parts are damaged in an accident, the insurer will only pay the replacement cost of the manufacturer’s original factory parts (standard condition). You will have to pay the price difference for the expensive modified parts out of your own pocket.
2. The Paired Part/Set Rule (Single-Side Replacement) Cars have many parts that come in pairs (left-right) or sets (like headlights, side mirrors, or alloy wheels). If an accident damages only one part of that pair or set (for example, only the left mirror is smashed), the insurer will only replace the specific part that was damaged. They will not replace the entire pair or set just to match the color, wear, or fading of the undamaged part.

Claim Simulation Examples
To make this perfectly clear, let’s look at two scenarios involving a standard hatchback:
Scenario 1: Unreported Rim Modification
- The Incident: You replace your car’s standard factory wheels with a set of imported racing rims worth $2,000. You forget to declare this modification to your insurance company. One day, you hit a deep pothole and two of the racing rims are completely destroyed.
- The Claim Decision: Your claim is approved, BUT the insurer will invoke this clause. Because the racing rims are not listed on the policy, the insurer will only pay the cost to replace two standard factory rims (for example, a total payout of $400). You lose the remaining value of your expensive racing rims.
Scenario 2: One Broken Headlight
- The Incident: A motorcycle grazes the left side of your car. As a result, your left headlight housing is completely shattered. The right headlight is completely untouched and works perfectly.
- The Claim Decision: The insurer will only buy you one new left headlight. You might complain because the new left headlight looks crystal clear, while your old right headlight looks a bit cloudy or yellowed from years of sun exposure, making the car look “mismatched.” However, based on the Paired Part clause, the insurer has the legal right to refuse your request to replace the undamaged right headlight.
Professional Advice: If you have recently installed an expensive audio system, upgraded your rims, or added a custom body kit to your car, contact your insurance agent or broker immediately. Ask them to add these modifications to your policy (this is called an Endorsement). You will pay a slightly higher premium, but it is entirely worth it to ensure your expensive upgrades are fully covered in the event of an accident.
